We are going to find out about Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan’s leadership ability. They need to handle this and handle it now . . .
Tuesday’s practice is open to the media. Monday’s practice was only open to state-controlled media.
So Tuesday, the beat writers will be back at One Jets Drive, for the first time this week, and will be pursuing this Darron Lee concert story.
And this is a story worth pursuing. This isn’t a case of the media blowing things out of proportion. To me, this is a big deal.
Something isn’t right with this player, as I mentioned yesterday.
Todd Bowles tends to downplay everything with the media, but if that was Lee in the video being restrained by Leonard Williams from going after a woman, this is a really big deal.
And this follows Lee saying he got mugged at a Columbus bar in February, but nobody else seems to be aware of the incident. Does that pass the smell test? A little odd?
“Midway from the exit of the bar, I get hit and tackled simultaneously,” Lee said in February after the supposed incident. “Have no idea who it was. I wasn’t in an argument with anybody. I hadn’t said a word to anybody. Just leaving the bar to go home, and I get punched and tackled. I have no idea by whom. To this very moment I have no idea by whom. Don’t care.”
On Twitter, he thanked the Columbus Police Department for sparing his life. The tweets were later deleted. The Columbus PD said there is no record of an incident at a bar.
Bowles needs to have a long talk with this guy. He’s coming off a bad season and he’s acting a little strange.
Bowles needs to be a leader and handle this. Don’t slough it off.
And Mike Maccagnan needs to show he’s a GM, not just a college scouting director. We know he can scout players and stack a draft board, but there is more to being a GM than that. The second first round pick of his tenure, Lee, is acting a little odd, and Maccagnan needs to get to the bottom of this.
Maccagnan is a smart guy, but needs to show more alpha dog leadership qualities. I was underwhelmed by his defense of Christian Hackenberg in January, after a couple of Jets employees ripped the quarterback to Adam Schefter. To me, Maccagnan didn’t do a great job defending his young signal-caller after this report. Not only didn’t he do a good job defending Hackenberg, he showed no anger at the leakers. He needs to do better than that.
His job isn’t just about picking players, it’s about running a football operation. Let’s see what you’ve got. You need to get to the bottom of why your 2016 first round pick is acting, at times, in a bizarre fashion.
Was Lee mugged in February?
If that is him in the video, which is certainly seems to be, why was he going apoplectic towards that woman at the concert?
Why is he going on twitter on making excuses for his poor play last year?
Enough already.
Somebody needs to tell this player to get his act together.
Bowles and Maccagnan needs to show some big-time leadership here.
Don’t sweep this under the rug.
