Central Florida’s Josh Robinson is the fastest cornerback in the draft, clocking a 4.3 forty at the combine. With a potential Darrelle Revis holdout, the Jets might need to add a cornerback early in the draft, and Robinson could be a good fit in the second or third round.
Q)How would you describe your career at UCF?
Robinson: I would describe it as consistent and actually improving even though I didn’t have the interceptions (last season) that I had my first few years, I did make more plays and gave up less and less touchdowns and completions. I believe my career was kind of sound at UCF.
Q)What is the team that selects you going to be getting?
Robinson: A variety. I was telling a guy that I believe that’s one of the best attributes of my game, the variety, the ability to play man and play zone, to go into nickel and if I have to go to safety, I can do that as well.
Q)What did playing against (Georgia’s) A.J. Green last year do for your confidence?
Robinson: It gave me a lot of confidence, especially seeing a guy like A.J. do so well this past year (with the Cincinnati Bengals). And having the ability to play against him, I was blessed. I’m thankful just to have that opportunity.
Q)Was you’re feeling, if you can play against him you can play against anybody?
Robinson: Yes, that actually gave me that type of mindset, yes sir.
Q)How did you end up at UCF?
Robinson: Coach O’Leary promised me one thing that a lot of schools didn’t do. He didn’t just promise me that I’d play and things like that, he promised that I’d get my degree. And that’s something that I really appreciated.
A lot of coaches could really fill your head up but that was something that I liked. And I don’t have my degree yet, but I will because I’m going to keep my side of the deal.
Q)How far are you from getting your degree?
Robinson: I have 20 hours left (criminal justice major).
Q)What’s it like to be on the verge of living out a dream and playing in the NFL?
Robinson: It’s hard to even put that in words. It’s been a dream of mine for many years. I feel blessed to just get this opportunity.
Q)Did you play more press or zone in college?
Robinson: Actually I was in zone the majority of the time, and then every now and then we’d press. But down near the goal line we always pressed.
Q)What’s going to be the biggest area of improvement you need to make for the next level?
Robinson: Transition. You got to be able to react much smoother and quicker than you did in college.
In college a lot of guys take choppy steps and things like that, and you can’t have that at the next level. It’s one cut and go at the next level.
Q)How good of a blitzer are you?
Robinson: I think I’m a great blitzer. I think I have the speed to get there and am smart enough to know what
angles I can’t take and my responsibilities and things like that.
