Rex Ryan was asked by a Cortland Standard reporter about an impressive drive conducted by Kellen Clemens. Rex’s answer doesn’t bode well for Kellen’s future in green.
“I guess my head was somewhere else,” Ryan admitted. “It never jumped out at me today.”
Uh-oh . . .
Following the afternoon practice, Rex and Mike went for a long walk around the track in the football stadium. It’s probably not too hard to figure out what they were talking about – Darrelle Revis . . .
I’ve been around Mike Tannenbaum along time. I don’t think he’s a liar . . .
Joe McKnight got a lot of work as the gunner during the special team’s practice . . .
Lance Laury had two stops in one kick coverage drill. This is why he was signed . . .
Jeff Cumberland returned to practice this morning from a concussion and continued his prolific ways. He caught a ton of balls, including a deep ball that was tipped by Josh Mauga. Cumberland showed terrific concentration on this play. He was wearing a red jersey, like the quarterbacks, so defenders wouldn’t rough him up, since he was coming off a head injury . . .
David Clowney dropped two balls in the morning practice. I don’t think his head is in a good place right now . . .
DE Ty Steinkuhler has really come in recent days. He’s has been in the backfield quite a bit and had another sack in the morning practice.
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets keep Steinkuhler and Matt “Don’t Be” Kroul on the practice squad for a second straight year. Both players have had good camps, but barring an injury, it’s hard to see how there is room for either on the regular roster . . .
Ben Hartsock is a really good run blocker, but we already knew that. He sealed the corner effectively on a long Danny Woodhead run off left tackle in the morning practice . . .
This Donovan Warren is a terrific football player. He picked off Kellen Clemens. Also, everytime you turn around, he is making a big hit. He rocked Woodhead much to Bart Scott’s approval. Not only is Warren a really good cover guy, but he’s exceedingly tough . . .
The Jets sent Kyle Wilson on a corner blitz this morning and he got into the backfield in a hurry. He has a tremendous burst off the edge.
Wilson had a really good practice overall. He tipped a pass intended for Jerricho Cotchery that led to a pick . . .
