Florham Park – Daily Website Whispers just $7.95 a month . . .
I’m not saying he did it for show. He has a good work ethic. But wide receiver Tim White was literally fielding balls from the jugs machine for like a half-hour after everyone else was off the practice field.
This is a great optic in camp to impress the evaluators; a guy spending that much time working extra after practice.
He’s also had a pretty good camp, like today when he caught a deep pass down the left sideline from Davis Webb. White has great speed.
Former Jets linebacker Chad Cascadden once told me he got into fights on purpose in camp to get the coaches attention and maybe it helped him make the team in 1995.
White catching all those extra balls after practice is not only good for his game, but a good way to show the decision-makers he will do the extra work it takes to be good . . .
The Jets are in very good shape at the #2 quarterback spot with Trevor Siemian. He looked terrific today. He’s obviously not a threat to Darnold, but if something happened to Sam, this is a guy you can win games with. He threw a nice TD pass to WR Deonte Thompson on the right side of the end zone, and also hit RB Bilal Powell on a quick slant for a long gain. He had a TD pass to WR Josh Bellamy in a red zone drill in the middle of the end zone with Derrick Jones in coverage . . .
Simple concept that makes sense – Sam Darnold looks at this first read, and if it’s not open, he dumps to Le’Veon Bell. Good plan for a young QB learning to go through his reads – look for a receiver or tight end, and it’s not there, dump to Bell and let him do his thing. Expect a lot of this . . .
Webb has a lot of potential, but he needs to work on his accuracy. We have seen too many simple outs this summer off-target, like a square out to WR Quadree Henderson today that wasn’t even close . . .
Foley Fatukasi needs to lower his pad level. He’s playing too upright, making himself an easy guy to lock up for offensive linemen. As they say in wrestling – the low man wins . . .
Jamison Crowder (pictured above) returned to practice today after a foot scare, and picked up where he left off with Jets corners struggling to cover him. He’s a great route-runner and has amazing short-area quickness, which is a lethal combination that allows him to consistently cut away from defenders . . .
The Jets’ defense was a little sloppy today (too many guys jumping off-sides), but there is a price to pay.
“[Gregg Williams] does a good job of holding people accountable for their mistakes,” said DE Henry Anderson.
How so? Williams shows the mistakes in the defensive film meeting, and points out the player in front of the room.
“You don’t want to be on the board and get called out,” said Anderson.
Embarrassment is a great motivator . . .
Guard Kelechi Osemele pulled to the second level on a Bell run and tossed LB Avery Williamson to the ground. This is the second time I’ve seen him do this to Williamson in camp.
If he stays healthy, the trade for Osemele could turn into a steal for the Jets. He’s a powerhouse, who is light on his feet, and has great technique.
