Breece Hall . . .
is a special talent.
He isn’t only a gifted runner, but as a receiving back, he has the hands and route-running ability of a top-shelf receiver.
In the second quarter, this was on display, when Hall swung out of the backfield, made a tremendous move on running back Akeem Davis-Gaither, a smooth cut from the right to the middle, leaving the linebacker in the dust, and gained 18 yards on the play on a third-and-four. Great move!
In the second quarter in Cleveland, he caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown to tie the game at 14.
Against Cleveland, he was open for two plays that would have been long gains, but Joe Flacco was off-target, first on a wheel route on the right side early in the game that was underthrown. If Flacco hits him in stride, it’s probably TD. And then in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-one, Hall once against with an excellent move, got open over the middle and Flacco threw it high, and it was picked by safety Jessie Bates.
With all the attention given to Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, Hall is getting favorable matchups against linebackers who can’t cover him and is taking advantage.
This guy is a big-time talent, and clearly a first-round talent, who the Jets stole in the second round.
If he stays healthy, I think he’s going to be a star on the NFL level . . .
What do you expect them to say?
People were going around the locker room asking players about the return of Zach Wilson.
These questions are kind of rhetorical.
The decision-makers have decided to go back to him at QB. These are foot soldiers. Not decision-makers. Of course they have to support the decision and say nice things. Hey, surely there are some who are happy with Wilson’s return to the starting lineup, so might not be.
How does Garrett Wilson really feel?
“He looks real good, still putting the ball in tight spots and really slinging it, so I’m excited,” Garrett Wilson said.
However, this is the same Garrett Wilson who said when Joe Flacco took over as the starter in mid-August following Zach Wilson’s knee injury:
“It’s a lot of experience right there with Flacco. I feel like everything with him, he takes some pace off, puts some pace on the ball,” Garrett Wilson said. “He does a good job of making the passes receiver-friendly. That’s the best way I can put it into words. They’re pretty easy to catch. Takes some off the ball when you’re running a slant route versus an out route, put some zip on it because it’s gotta be. Things like that.”
If he was saying that about Flacco, don’t you think he was implying that somebody else wasn’t as good at “receiver-friendly” passes?
In Flacco’s three starts, Garrett Wilson had 18 receptions for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
I’ve never been into “what do you expect them to say quotes.”
The bottom line is, Zach Wilson isn’t going back in the line-up to save the Jets. He’s going back in for the Jets to see if they have their long-term answer at QB.
That is what this is about. There is no messianic angle to any of this.
And players have no say in this decision, so their quotes to the media really don’t mean a ton . . .
Kwon Alexander is a very unique guy. After the Bengals game, he was playing gospel music at his locker, and then he took the music device with the gospel music with him walking to wherever he was walking in the locker room area.
He was mentoring young linebackers, like Jamien Sherwood and Hamsah Nasrildeen, days after signing. I’ve never seen mentoring kick in this fast for a new player.
I think this guy is going to help the Jets a great deal on Sunday starting at linebacker. He’s a great leader and really pumps up teammates with his spirit. He’s played in a lot of big games and having him out there, should help this defense a great deal. Don’t underrate this factor on Sunday.
