Dan checks in with a heaping helping of Website Whispers with items of Melvin Ingram, Neil Glat, Woody and Rex and “Hard Knocks,” . . .
The reason Nolan Nawrocki is the best draft analyst in the business, is that he’s willing to make comments about players personalities, intelligence and character. Others avoid this stuff, and by doing so, they aren’t painting the full picture.
South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram visited the Jets this week.
There is no question he’s got a ton of talent. He’s a unique athlete who moves very, very well for a 6-2, 264-pounder.
But as only Nawrocki has the guts to point out – “He has some growing up to do and his immaturity issue could diminish his draft status.” . . .
While this news isn’t going to get a lot of attention because it’s not on the football side, the Jets hire of Neil Glat as team president is an important move for them.
For so long, the Jets were going with a myriad of VP’s, and no central figure to oversee them. Granted Woody was kind of overseeing them, but he’s got a lot of things going on outside of the Jets (like working with the Mitt Romney campaign).
The Jets have needed a guy like Glat, to oversee the operation full time, for quite some time.
And he has the perfect resume for the job, after 15 years in the league office, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. His responsibilities included strategic initiatives, league and club business development and stadium development.
And his education is impeccable – a graduate as the Wharton School of Business at Penn, and Harvard Law School. That is as good as it gets, folks.
“Neil Glat is a talented executive who has contributed to a wide range of business accomplishments during his NFL career,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “I have worked closely with Neil on many projects and he will undoubtedly continue to make his mark on the league in this important and exciting new role with the Jets.”
One industry source, who knows Glat, says he won’t be a “yes” man for Woody. He’s not that kind of guy.
Here is the question I’m still researching – Will Mike Tannenbaum be reporting to Glat?”
Once I get that answer, I will let you guys know . . .
This Fox Sports story about Rex and Woody not being on the same page about “Hard Knocks” is much ado about nothing.
It’s not like they are arguing about it in Florham Park.
They just have a different perspectives on it, but they aren’t at loggerheads.
From what I hear, the Jets really aren’t a serious contender for “Hard Knocks.”
A friend of mind, in the business, visited the NFL office last week, and was talking to some folks, and one topic was “Hard Knocks.”
And my friend tells me, that NFL people he talked to said, the Jets aren’t even a consideration.
We have heard Atlanta and Jacksonville mentioned as possibilities. But here is another name my friend heard – Buffalo.
I would be shocked if the Jets are on “Hard Knocks.”
