New Jersey – It’s time for a heaping helping of Website Whispers from the Jets compound. A lot going on, so let’s get into it . . .
With all the talk about the Wildcat, and how the Jets are going to use Tebow and Sanchez, some other important factors in this game are being ignored.
For example, the Buffalo Bills are starting a rookie left tackle. This is a big deal.
And a left tackle that didn’t play a lot of left tackle in college. As a freshman and junior, Cordy Glenn played strictly guard. As a sophomore, he started eight games at left guard, one at right guard and four at left tackle.
Then as a senior he started the entire season at left tackle.
Glenn has a lot of ability, and should turn into a very good left tackle in time, but it could be roughing sailing for him, especially early this season, and expect the Jets to go after him, and dial up a lot of pressure on his side.
Don’t be shocked if he has a couple of false starts in his first NFL start in a loud road stadium . . .
Sione Pouha on whether he will play on Sunday – “I’m working towards it.”
Watching Pouha in a defensive line drills today, he looked pretty good. I saw him show a good burst charging up field, and didn’t seem to be favoring his back.
He looks real close to me . . .
I asked Ellis Lankster if he will play this Sunday.
“Yes sir,” said the southern gentleman.
He has missed the last three weeks with a quad injury.
I can’t tell you how impressed I’ve been with this kid. He’s constantly making plays on the ball.
And you know he will be extra motivated this Sunday since he’s a former seventh round pick of the Bills, who was bounced fairly quickly . . .
Josh Bush, who suffered a concussion in the Carolina preseason game, is also ready to go.
I asked Bush if he was going to play Sunday.
“Yes, sir,” Bush said . . .
Ricky Sapp was released today, but his locker remains in tact, so he’s probably coming back . . .
With Marcus Dixon back (I was dead wrong yesterday about the reason – it was because Isaako blew out his knee.), this is will be good for Kenrick Ellis.
I saw them leaving work together today. They are very, very close. Remember, they both went to Hampton.
Dixon is a good mentor and motivator for Ellis . . .
The new punter, Robert Malone, unleashed some bombs today, but also had a couple of clunkers.
Sounds familiar – that was the pattern we saw in T.J. Conley.
Malone, who has a powerful, thick lower body, had two amazing punts in a row – one a 65-yarder with a 4.89 hang-time, and then a 63-yard punt with a 4.85 hang-time . . .
The Jets practiced inside due to rain, and it was hot and muggy in the field house (pictured above). There is no air conditioning, and that decision was made by Eric Mangini. I guess he didn’t want the players to get too comfortable practicing inside . . .
Watching David Harris practicing today, he didn’t seem to be favoring his injured ankle at all . . .
