Something to consider about Greenberg’s take on Fields to Jets . . .

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg loves the Jets’ signing of QB Justin Fields.

“I don’t like the move, I love it,” Greenberg said. “This is overwhelmingly the best the Jets were going to do under the circumstances they found themselves in this off-season.”

The first sentence is fine. He can love the move all he wants. That is his right.

But the second sentence is a little suspicious.

When Greenberg says this is “the best the Jets were going to do under the circumstances they found themselves in this off-season,” that is a little bit of a flawed concept.

There is a famous quote from President Abraham Lincoln about the flimsy argument of somebody who “offed their parents, and then pleaded for mercy on the grounds of being an orphan.”

Jets coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey cut Aaron Rodgers. He was under contract this year.

Look, if they felt that getting rid of Rodgers, and starting anew at QB, was the way to go, that is absolutely their right.

But some would argue that nobody should cut them slack for doing “overwhelmingly the best” they could under the “circumstances” because they created the “circumstances.”

Hey, it could turn out great. We shall see.

Time will tell.
