Palm Beach—Speaking publicly for the first time since signing QB Justin Fields, Jets coach Aaron Glenn praised his new signal-caller.
“He can really throw the deep ball really, really well,” Glenn told NFL Network at the League Meeting in Palm Beach. “Obviously, his legs are something that’s dynamic not just in college but the NFL as well.”
While Fields is 14-30 as an NFL starter with stops in Chicago and Pittsburgh, Glenn feels he’s ready to “break out.”
“I just think he’s ready to break out as a top-notch quarterback,” Glenn said. “So, he’s going to do everything he can to be one of the better ones and we are going to coach our asses off to make sure he does a good job out there.”
It will be interesting to see if the Jets’ offensive coaches can help Fields improve his progression scans and move off his first read more consistently.
If they can, a “break out” is quite possible.
