An owner can’t be “forced”

Ted Sundquist, who was a candidate for the Jets’ GM job, told ESPN New York, that Woody Johnson said to him, that the Tim Tebow trade was “forced” on the owner.

Johnson didn’t name names, but the person who supposedly “forced” him was likely former GM Mike Tannenbaum.

That is a unusual word for an owner to use.

How can an owner be “forced” to do ANYTHING by ANYBODY working for him?

That would be a very unusual scenario in the world of sports.

Granted, Johnson might like to defer to his GM and coach on football decisions, and that is usually the best set-up.

But theoretically, he can’t be “forced” to do anything.
