So I reached out to PFW to get Nolan’s take on the player.
“He has average athletic ability and functional strength,” said Nawrocki. “He is not a physical blocker and gets outmuscled by defensive backs. He lacks elite top-end speed to separate vertically. He does not sell routes downfield or consistently separate. He is not elusive after the catch.” . . .
The Jets drafting of two wide receivers, along with the presence of two practice squad wideouts – Logan Payne and Patrick Turner (who was called up a few times last year), you definitely get the sense that the Jets don’t plan on bringing back all three free agent wide receivers – Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes and Brad Smith.
If they are serious about winning, they will bring back all three.
First off all, the Jets have very espensive tickets (and they were raised again in certain sections), so the owe it to their fans to sign all three.
When you pay a premium for tickets, you deserve the best.
Did you know the Detroit Lions have season tickets for $30 a game?
Ah, the old days.
Secondly, any free agent rookie or veteran free agent signing is going to be lost in the system, with so little practice and class room time.
Thinks about it – if the lockout ends in August, it’s going to be really tough on new players on a team as far as knowing the playbook and chemsitry with their new teammates.
Rich Cimini wrote that the Jets are likely not going to re-sign Edwards.
Like I said before, if the Jets are serious about winning, if they try to get cute, and try to save money, they are going to hurt their chances of winning.
This isn’t like replacing James Dearth and Jay Feely to save a buck, this is about quarterback-wide receiver chemistry, which takes a long time to develop.
Keep an eye on this one.
If anybody thinks 35-year-old Randy Moss, signing late, not knowing the system, with attitude issues, and having no chemistry with Sanchez, is a better option than Edwards, you’re nuts.
And then you hear Ocho Cinco bandied about – please – he had issues the system in Cinci, where he was for many years, and you want him to be a quick study?
A challenge to Woody and Matt Higgins – get’r done. Get these guys signed.
You are a big market team with very, very expensive tickets.
Act like the Yankees.
