More players were needed Dan Leberfeld

The Jets have a lot of injured players right now. So do a lot of other NFL teams.

There are a lot of possible reasons for this, including teams not having off-season conditioning programs.

But the reduction of the rosters from 90 to 80 for camp this summer, might also be contributing.

You have less guys on the field due to the roster reduction, and then when you get a bunch of guys hurt, the players who are left standing, might be getting too many reps, due to a number’s crisis.

In other words, some guys might be getting overused in practice, because teams are so short on healthy bodies, and that overuse might be leading to even more injuries.

In retrospect, the NFLPA and NFL should not have cut the rosters to 80 before camp. The teams needed those extra 10 bodies.
