Brunell files for bankruptcy

According to the Florida Times-Union, quarterback Mark Brunell filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this morning in Jacksonville, Fla.

Over the course of his long career, Brunell has made around $52 million.

He lost the money due to bad real estate investments.

“The timing of the group’s real estate acquisitions at the height of the real estate market, in hindsight, clearly was not good,” Brunell said in an e-mail to the Times-Union. “In the end, we couldn’t and I am no longer able to shoulder this burden.”

Brunell is expected to sign with the Jets some time this summer.
