Calabrese and Rutenberg on getting a chance to call plays Dan Leberfeld

At the recent Senior Bowl event, Jets QB coach Rob Calabrese and LB coach Mike Rutenberg played big roles.

Calabrese served as offensive coordinator, and Rutenberg was the defensive coordinator, for the National Team.

They also sat down for exclusive interviews with the Jets’ website.

What was it like for them to run the offense and defense at the Senior Bowl?

“It’s been a good experience for me,” said Calabrese, a Long Island native.

Calabrese continued, “Getting my feet wet, it’s been a whole lot of fun to call plays and script plays.”

“It’s humbling,” said Rutenberg “You definitely learned a lot. it was a first-time experience for me and I really, really enjoyed it.”

One challenge for Rutenberg was calling a defensive game with limitations.

“The Senior Bowl put rules on us – our menu of calls is limited,” said Rutenberg.

Nevertheless, Rutenberg loved the experience.

“I was fired up,” said Rutenberg. “Any opportunity to do something you haven’t done, really appreciative.”
