Joe D hits it out of park

The Jets entered the 2022 draft with three big needs.

They needed a #1 cornerback, an explosive edge-rusher and a wide receiver.

Check, check, check.

They filled all three needs, all on Day One of the 2022 draft, landing Cincinnati CB Sauce Gardner, FSU DE Jermaine Johnson and Ohio State WR Garrett Wilson in the first round.

It was no secret the Jets liked Johnson quite a bit, but it looked like they might miss out on him, after they selected Gardner at 4, and Wilson at 10. However, after Johnson surprisingly slipped to 26, they traded picks 35, 69 and 163 to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for picks 26 and 101, and grabbed Johnson at 26.

Why Johnson slipped is a mystery. Usually, the top pass-rushers come off the board pretty fast.

But whatever the reason, the Jets took advantage of it, and left the first round with three of the highest-rated players on their board.

Jets GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh were pretty exuberant when they addressed the media after the first round.

And you can understand why.
