You can criticize the Jets for a lot of things last year, but to say they had a “culture of fear” is a reach.
An NFLPA player survey graded them the worst team in the NFL for ownership, getting an “F.”
But the reason given by an NFLPA should not be the reason for that grade.
“They talked about the culture – it’s a problem, top down,” NFLPA chief strategy officer JC Tretter said of Jets players’ responses to the survey. “[They said,] ‘It’s a culture of fear here.’ And I think that stood out in those grades.”
“Culture of fear?” with a former staff that essentially refused to bench or cut people for bad plays, games, or even seasons?
Where’s the fear?
They seemed to just keep rolling with the same guys, no matter how bad the film was, especially on defense.
How is it a “culture of fear” when you come to the sideline after a bonehead play and you aren’t yelled at, and it’s like business as usual?
If you want to give the ownership a bad grade for meddling too much, fine, but for a “culture of fear?” C’mon now.
There was little discipline, and that led to the hiring of no-nonsense coach Aaron Glenn.
You want to know who had a “culture of fear?” New England under Bill Belichick and they won six Lombardi Trophys.
“Culture of fear” with the Jets last year – that is absurd.
They would have been better off with a “culture of fear” – it was more like a country club.
