At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Bart Scott and Calvin Pace combined for a huge play, stopping Fred Jackson for no gain on a 4th-and-1.
Harris had a QB pressure, late in the game, crushing Ryan Fitzpatrick as he threw. He was slow to get up – hobbling a little. It was a major lick.
Aaron Maybin had a somewhat quiet game back in Buffalo. His one play of note was drawing a holding call on left tackle Andy Levitre late in the game.
Let’s turn to the secondary.
There is a lot of talk about Kyle Wilson’s improved coverage skills, but what isn’t mentioned enough is how he’s improved as a tackler.
On the Bills first offensive play of the game, Ryan Fitzpatrick hit WR David Nelson in the left flat, and Wilson stopped the 6-5, 215-pound wideout in his tracks.
Another example of good defensive back tackling wrapped up the Bills first possession. It was a 3rd-and-4, and Fitzpatrick threw a pass to the short right side to RB Fred Jackson, and Eric Smith stopped him in his tracks, not allowing any trickle forward, and the Bills were one yard short, and had to punt.
Another good play by Smith was in the third quarter, when he covered Jackson perfectly on a pass down the deep right side that fell incomplete.
Late in the game, a Smith blitz forced Fitzpatrick to throw a pass away.
Brodney Pool showed tremendous toughness in this game. He got cut on the first drive, and it looked like he suffered a serious knee injury. But he somehow came back for the second series, and on 3rd-and-1, stopped Jackson for a loss of one to end the series.
At the end of the first quarter, on 3rd-and-12, Donald Strickland was beat by Nelson for a gain of 15, on a crossing route left to right. The 5-11 Strickland couldn’t deal with the height of Nelson on this play.
In the third quarter, Strickland had one of those plays that gets him in trouble physically. Fitzpatrick was scrambling, and Strickland came up and crushed him, stopping him for no gain. Donald hit him so hard, this could have easily been another head injury for the super tough corner who plays like a linebacker, but weighs under 200 pounds.
Antonio Cromartie had perfect coverage, and a PD on square in to Donald Jones on the short right side, in the middle of the second quarter.
Late in the first half, Fitzpatrick threw a pass deep down the right seam to Jones, and Cro had airtight coverage. Jones, a Jersey kid, had no chance against Cro. This was mismatch favoring the Jets.
In the middle of the third quarter, Cro showed some good toughness in run support, stopping a sweep to C.J. Spiller to the left side, and causing a fumble that went out of bounds.
Late in the fourth quarter, Cro was called for holding on Jones.
Late in the fourth quarter, Cro was beat by Nelson for a touchdown. A Bills receiver cut in front of Cro, he didn’t touch the Jets DB, but this threw off Cro’s coverage, and he was late coming over to Nelson.
Darrelle Revis played an average game. He was beat by Steve Johnson for a gain of 52 down the deep right side in the third quarter. In the middle of the fourth quarter, he was called for holding on Johnson. In the middle of the fourth quarter, Johnson beat Revis for a gain of 26 down the deep left side. Johnson acted like he was going deep, but cut it off, and Fitz hit him on the unsuspecting Revis.
