The behavior of Dave Caldwell, or a source close to him, is pretty unimpressive.
And that fact that he, or his agent, or a friend, would leak information about a contract proposal, to make the Jets look bad, makes it pretty clear, the Jets are better off without him.
They don’t need more leakers, they need less.
The following was leaked to SI’s Peter King – “Included in the New York Jets’ contract package being prepared for David Caldwell last Monday — the day the club gave him a tour of the area and was wooing him to be the team’s next general manager — was a $1 million housing allowance.”
And then you had Jay Glazer, who is like family with the Atlanta Falcons, saying yesterday. “They can’t give the position away. They are now calling back candidates that turned them down, saying please reconsider.”
I would bet top dollar this came from Caldwell or somebody around him. I can’t overstate how plugged in Glazer is with the Atlanta Falcons’ organization.
In the long run, don’t you think the Jets will be better off without this guy?
When you think about it, what does this college scouting director have over candidates like Ted Sundquist or Jerry Angelo, who have already been long-time GM’s.
With Sundquist and Angelo, there is proof in the puddling. With Caldwell, it’s all guesswork.
The hype around Caldwell is way out of control.
And the behavior of the candidate, or people around him, is devoid of integrity, leaking confidential info to make the Jets look bad.
Think about how disgusting this behavior is. The guy doesn’t take the job, and he, or one of his cohorts, leaks the Jets’ proposal to Peter King.
What is the motivation to make the Jets look bad?
They didn’t do anything wrong.
They were interested in Caldwell being their GM.
Why would that be grounds to go out of your way to make them look bad, and make them look like they have mud on their face?
I’m sorry, this is just wrong . . .
People wonder where the Jets will go for a quarterback, to perhaps complete with Greg McElroy, for the starting QB job next summer.
The top free agent quarterback (aside from Joe Flacco, who will be tagged if he’s not signed long-term) is Miami’s Matt Moore.
The Jets know the guy has talent. He beat them the last two times he faced them.
He led the Dolphins to a 30-9 win over the Jets in Week Eight of this year, subbing for Ryan Tannehill, who was hurt early in that game.
He also led the Dolphins to a 19-17 win over the Jets in Week 17 of the 2011 season.
The guy can play. He’s known for throwing a very accurate deep ball.
If the Jets can get him at a reasonable price, he would be the perfect guy to compete with McElroy for the starting job . . .
It is smart for the Jets to wait for a GM to hire offensive coordinator.
I know Rex controls his staff, but he already made two shaky decisions at offensive coordinator. First, he acted passive aggressively, and allowed management to extend Brian Schottenheimer, when he wasn’t in love with him.
Then he let his agent talk him into hiring Tony Sparano.
Rex needs another strong football man to assist him with this decision, and that person isn’t in the building yet . . .
