Mt. Olive – Dan’s final TC notes including items on Jason Taylor, Mark Sanchez, Vernon Gholston, Mark Brunell, Robbie Felix, T-Rich, Laveranues Coles and Kris Jenkins . . .
A good news/bad news scenario – Jason Taylor tipped yet another pass. He has been prolific in this area all summer. That is the good news for the Jets. The bad news is that he tipped another Mark Sanchez pass. This has happened too much, and sometimes it makes you think of Sanchez’s lack of ideal height.
Also, Taylor dropped into coverage and had a PD on a pass to Ben Hartsock. Even at 35, JT still has loads of athleticism . . .
Vernon Gholston got a lot of reps with the starters on Friday. This is ridiculous. Perhaps he has improved a little, but for him to be anywhere near the starting lineup doesn’t make any sense. Rex, come back to us . . .
You know I’ve been rough on Kellen Clemens over the last few years because of his happy feet, but I have to give the guy credit. He looked pretty good against the Giants, and has been solid the last two weeks of camp. Perhaps he can create some trade interest . . .
Sanchez’s deep completion to Braylon Edwards down the left sideline in the morning practice was a phenomenal spiral. It was perhaps the nicest pass of the summer. It was a thing of beauty. What a throw! I can’t throw out enough expletives about this throw.
As they say in the football work, “He spun it.” . . .
Speaking of spinning it – Mark Brunell can still do just that. He still has plenty of velocity and looks far from done.
He threw a rocket over the middle to David Clowney and a pass way down the left seam to Jeff Cumberland . . .
Getting back to Sanchez, the best word to describe his practice this morning was “inconsistent.”
He threw that “beaut” to Edwards, but also threw a pick in the red zone to David Harris and threw behind Jerricho Cotchery, allowing Brodney Pool to get a PD. He was also high on an incompletion to Dustin Keller . . .
Laveranues Coles is making himself very hard to cut. He caught two consecutive passes from Brunell, one of the middle and another a short pass on the right side . . .
Robbie Felix belongs in the league. He did something very hard to do in the morning practice. He pancaked Ropati Pitoitua . . .
T-Rich must be reading the clips. Some people are writing him off. He had a tremendous block on James Ihedigbo (Terminator-like) in the morning practice, paving the way for a long run off left tackle by Chauncey Washington . . .
Kyle Wilson finished off camp on a strong note with a diving PD in the morning practice on a pass on the right side to Larry Taylor . . .
Eric Smith had a strong morning practice. In a short period of time, he had a PD on Cotchery and then on Keller over the middle . . .
Kris Jenkins had a very quiet camp on the field. It’s not that he was bad, but he clearly is pacing himself, saving his best for the regular season.
