Time for another dose of Dan’s Website Whispers with notes on Derrick Mason, Santonio Holmes, the Jets offensive line, “Dumb and Dumber,” and so much more . . .
The grass is always greener.
With the Jets, Derrick Mason had trouble learning the system over his two months with the team.
But now, a couple days in his Houston Texans career, the team’s play-by-play guy, Mark Vandermeer, was asked if he will be able to contribute on Sunday.
“He’s seasoned pro,” Vandermeer wrote on twitter. “Kubiak says he’s good to go.”
The Texans must have a real simple playbook . . .
LB Garrett McIntyre, who missed the New England game due to a concussion, will return this week. He passed his baseline concussion test on Monday . . .
Now you are seeing why the Pittsburgh Steelers dumped Santonio Holmes. He’s can be a moody, derisive influence.
For the second time in a couple of weeks, he insulted the offensive line today. The timing was bizarre, considering the line played well in Foxboro.
It looks like now that he got his big payday for the team, the Jets can’t control him.
Coming off a suspension and in a contract year last season, he was on his best behavior.
Now, he’s shooting his mouth off, and if he doesn’t stop, he could really divide the offense . . .
Isaiah Trufant (hamstring) hasn’t practiced this week, and will not play on Monday . . .
You know what is surprising?
After playing very well this summer in Jets camp and in the preseason games, CB Ellis Lankster didn’t get any free agent visits.
You have to be kidding me?
I’m not making him into Darrelle Revis, but with so many teams struggling at corner, how is this guy an afterthought.
We all saw him this summer. That guy has game.
The Jets signed him earlier this week after injuries to Trufant and Donald Strickland (concussion).
Strickland told me he feels pretty good and still hopes to play, but it would be shocking if the Jets let a player play a week after a concussion, especially since it’s not his first . . .
I just wanted to double check today – yes, practice squad defensive end Jarron Gilbert is now a tight end.
Yes – a 285 pound tight end.
But, he’s still getting reps at defensive end, so if the Jets suffer an injury on the defensive line, he could still be called up to play there . . .
Greg McElroy has the cast off his injured hand . . .
Rex Ryan said today that one reason TE Matt Mulligan has been penalty prone is that he wants to succeed so badly, he’s pressing a little . . .
The New York Daily News backpage today was about the Jets, and had pictures of Mike Tannenbaum and Rex Ryan. The headline read – “Dumb and Dumber.”
I understand it’s been a rough year so far for Mike and Rex, but that is over the line.
And the column to support the backpage was by soccer/tennis writer Filip Bondy.
Bondy really isn’t that into American football.
What these tabloids often do, is they will ask a columnist to write something to support this kind of backpage, and they oblige.
They could say to a columnist, “Can you write a column saying that Mark Sanchez is a leprechaun?” And they would do it.
They are basically hired guns.
