New Jersey – A few things to get into today, including a safety the Jets are working out, a Darrelle Revis-scenario and a player with world class speed who can help the Jets . . .
FIU safety Jonathan Cyprien’s will take one of his pre-draft visits with the Jets.
The North Miami Beach High School-graduate is likely a second or third round prospect.
He has nice size at a little over 6-0, and 217 pounds. He runs under 4.6 in the 40, and recorded a 38.5 vertical leap at the combine. Those are all good numbers for an NFL safety prospect. The best round for him might be the third because his instincts are okay, not great . . .
Roy Cummings, who has been covering the Bucs for a long-time for the Tampa Tribune, had an interesting angle today on the Jets-Bucs-Revis scenario – that makes a lot of sense.
He feels the trade could happen on draft day as the first round develops. His point is that the Bucs might want to see who is slipping to them at 13. Let’s say a player they love is falling through the cracks, they might want to hold on to this year’s #1 pick (and perhaps send the Jets next year’s #1) . . .
A draft analyst for CBSSports.com blogged the following the other day, “The Eagles and Jets remain potential first round suitors for Smith, USC’s Matt Barkley or Syracuse’s Ryan Nassib, among others, but with no one quite sure what to expect from Chip Kelly or Rex Ryan on draft day, the possibility that no quarterback is selected in the first round is sounding more plausible.”
There is no way the Jets are picking Geno Smith at nine; If he slips to them in the second round, maybe.
Secondly, what to expect from Rex Ryan is irrelevant. He doesn’t run the Jets draft, John Idzik does. Idzik has final say on all draft picks . . .
The Jets could use a game-breaker on offense in this draft, and Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, could make a nice second or third round pick for them. True, the former track star is a little raw, but wow he’s an explosive athlete.
He ran the fastest forty at the combine, clocking a 4.27, and he also broad-jumped 11 feet. And then a the Texas Pro Day, he broad-jumped 42 inches. Those are all awesome explosion numbers.
And what you have to like about him is that he gets to top speed really fast. Sometimes taller, fast guys, like Stephen Hill, have to build momentum to get to their top speed, but the 5-9 Goodwin is like a Porsche 911 Turbo S – he goes from 0 to top speed almost immediately.
It’s pretty obvious the Jets could use a guy like this – either at running back or wide receiver – a player with world class speed who is a threat to take it all the way every time he touches the ball. Goodwin is that kind of guy . . .
Rich Cimini tweeted today, “Some Jets/Mets perspective: The #Mets scored more on opening day (11) than the #Jets did in seven games last season. #justsaying.”
Who cares?
But one source close to the Jets responded to this shot with, “The Jets scored more on opening day last season than the Mets will in the first month of this season.”
The Jets beat the Bills 48-28 on opening day . . .
