MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins have promoted safety D.J. Campbell from the teams practice squad to the active roster, the team announced. To make room for Campbell the team has placed tackle Jonathan Martin on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness List.
This is the second promotion to the active roster for Campbell. He was originally signed to the team’s practice squad on October 7, 2013, where he spent the next four weeks prior to be promoted on November 11, 2013. While on the active roster Campbell recorded three special teams tackles. Campbell was waived on November 25, 2013 and signed back to the practice squad on November 27, 2013.
The 6-0, 205-pound Campbell entered the NFL as a seventh round pick (216th overall) of the Carolina Panthers in the 2012 NFL Draft. Campbell spent the entire 2012 season on the Panthers active roster, appearing in five games and registering 12 tackles and one pass defensed. He was placed on the Reserve/Injured list by Carolina on September 1, 2013 and released eight days later on September 9, 2013.
A four-year letterman at California (2008-11), Campbell complied 110 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, two interceptions and seven passes defensed for the Golden Bears. As a senior he earned All-Pac 23 honorable mention after starting 13 games and recording 71 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions. Born on July 24, 1989, Campbell attended Cheyenne High School in North Las Vegas, Nev.
