Not trending, but this Jets defender flashed in practice today Dan Leberfeld

The Jets got this defender back today from an injury, and he showed what a difference he makes.

Jets DT Sheldon Rankins, who signed with the team as a free agent this off-season, was held out of a few practices recently due to a knee injury, but returned today.

And immediately, you saw what a difference he makes to the Jets’ front.

Even in limited reps today as the Jets ease him back into things, he had two splash plays, showing his impressive first-step quickness for a 305-pound defensive tackle. On one play, he exploded into a gap, pressuring Eagles QB Jalen Hurts into throwing the ball away. Then, Rankins blew up a run attempt in a red-zone drill.

Rankins, a former first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints, looks like a player who could help the Jets’ defense a great deal in 2021.
