Don’t buy this narrative . . .
Was talking to a photographer who shoots photos for the Jets a lot.
We were talking about the struggles of Zach Wilson, and he said, “Who else are they going to play?”
I disagreed and said that Mike White has a lot of ability.
The photographer wasn’t going by anything other than what he reads in the papers. He’s not a sportswriter, he’s a photographer. So I’m not attacking him.
For some reason, the media is dismissive of White. A lot of fans see that White is an option, but for some reason, the media, including some beat writers, won’t give him respect, and downplay him as an option. It’s almost like they are too cool to admit he’s pretty good, and they gaslight people who bring him up. It’s strange.
Look, I’m not putting White in Canton, but you can’t gaslight me on this subject. I have two eyes. I’ve been watching him in practice since he got here, and we all saw him in preseason games, and in action in 2021, like the game against Cincinnati.
I see a player who is calm in the pocket, reads defenses well, goes through his progressions smoothly and throws with anticipation.
Remember, he was benched last year against a rough game against Buffalo, the NFL’s #1 defense at the time. In Week 18 in Buffalo, with Wilson at QB, the Jets lost 27-10, and amassed 53 total yards, the lowest total ever by the Jets.
But teams have double standards when it comes to players. Draft picks often get the edge. Why was Bryce Huff, perhaps the Jets’ best pass rusher, inactive early in the year? Because they picked two defensive ends in the 2022 draft. That is why.
“There’s a lot of times players come into organizations and they really don’t have a chance because there is a bias about another player that never let’s go,” said former NFL Mike Lombardi on VSIN, not about the Jets, just in general. “There is a sunk cost bias – we’ve got him, we’ve got to keep going with him. I think certain times in organizations they don’t want to hear the truth.”
And the truth here is that White has enough talent to be a viable option if Wilson continues to struggle.
Don’t let the media or other fans gaslight you because they are trying to be cool . . .
Corey Davis not playing this week should not be a surprise.
As we reported the other day, when he left the Jets locker room, following the team’s game against New England, which he didn’t play, he was limping pretty bad.
So clearly they are going to push this to the bye-week and see if the extra two weeks will help.
But seeing him after the Pats game, he didn’t look like a player who was going to suit-up this week . . .
It’s surprising that John Franklin-Myers, after his roughing the passer penalty negated a Pick Six on Sunday against New England, decided to be outspoken this week about Josh Allen.
“He does a good job of breaking tackles and getting into guys’ heads and baiting guys into certain things, pleading with the refs and getting some of those calls,” Franklin-Myers said. “It’s NBA-like. That’s what the NFL is kind of turning into. Hey, the referees can’t see everything and their job is to call some of those things. Hey, if you can fake it until you make it, then that’s good for you, too.”
Is this the week for that? First of all, you are poking a bear, who is perhaps the best QB in the NFL. Secondly, you are coming off a game you probably would like to forget.
Shouldn’t this be a low-key week for the player? Some would argue that.
