Florham Park – Dan was snooping around One Jets Drive for some Whispers, and here is what he came up with . . .
It was amazing watching Trevor Pryce in the locker room today. The way he was interacting with his news teammates, it was like he’s been here for years. He’s got that kind of effusive, magnetic personality that makes him the life of the party wherever he goes.
Pryce intimated repeatedly on Friday that he is much happier playing for Rex than John Harbaugh (who is considered a hard-ass)
“I’m upset I wasn’t here earlier,” Pryce said.
Harbaugh said on Friday that Pryce’s decision to join the Jets was financial, but the defensive end said it’s not true. It’s accurate that he will make more money with the Jets, but Pryce swears his desire to play for Rex was the main reason for his decision to join the Jets . . .
Mark Sanchez had two bad overthrows to Dustin Keller on deep outs, one on each side of the field in practice on Friday. They were both bad overthrows. He was really ticked off at himself . . .
Hey, I’m not a body language expert, but I asked Jamaal Westerman about the accusation that he faked a hamstring injury against Miami, and he said with a straight face, no hesitation, that it cramped up due to de-hydration. He seemed very believable . . .
Nick Mangold was walking around today with a massive ice bag and wrap on his right shoulder, but will play on Sunday . . .
Drew Coleman had a pick in today’s practice down the left sideline on a pass from Mark Brunell to David Clowney . . .
Buffalo’s get some major injury issues on defense – Defensive end Marcus Stroud (ankle) and inside linebacker Andra Davis (shoulder) will miss the game. Also, cornerback Terrence McGee might be out because of knee soreness related to off-season surgery. These are three important players to a young Bills defense, and not having them will really help the Jets . . .
Darrelle Revis keeps saying that his holdout is the reason for his hamstring injury. We all know that long holdouts tend to cause injuries, but I can’t remember a player being so blunt about that being the reason for his injury. Usually the player poo-poos it, but Revis is actively promoting it. To me, reading the tea leaves, Revis is blaming the Jets for his hamstring injury. Revis is a good guy, but I really think his agents, have had a impact on his persona. He’s changed a little bit.
I’m not going to blame anybody or anything for his injury. Plenty of players around the league, who didn’t hold out, have hamstring (and groin) pulls and strains. Honestly, none of us know the reason for the hammy. It could have happened if he was in camp all summer . . .
Watching Calvin Pace in practice, he really seems to be thinking about his surgical foot. He admitted that the concept of having a screw in his foot spooks him a little bit. Watching him, run, he looks like he’s favoring the foot. I would be shocked if he plays on Sunday . . .
You get the sense the Jets are going to move Dustin Keller around a lot this week, to create mismatches . . .
The Jets are going to have to cut a player on Monday to make room for Santonio Holmes. Who will it be – Patrick Turner or David Clowney? It’s going to be tough call, but Turner might be the nod because the Jets seemed convinced he can be a factor on special teams for them. And we know how they feel about Clowney on specials.
But Clowney actually made a pretty good play on punt return coverage last week, and if he does something this week, he could help himself . . .
Mike Westhoff thinks Eric Smith has the best punt blocking instincts he has ever been around . . .
