I’ve never truly understood this quote.
In early June, safety J.J. Wilcox was reportedly about to sign with the San Francisco 49ers, but had a change of heart, and signed with the New York Jets instead.
A source told ESPN about Wilcox leaving San Francisco at the altar – “He got stage fright.”
I don’t get that.
“He got stage fright,” so he decided to avoid San Francisco and play in the nation’s top media market?
I don’t know who the source was; maybe it was John Lynch, but not sure what “stage fright” had to so with this decision?
I think Wilcox saw the Rontez Miles’ injury and a good opportunity with the Jets.
Also, Wilcox and Jets coach Todd Bowles have the same agent, so that might have been a factor.
But “stage fright?”
That seems like a bizarre rationale.
