Idzik will take his time

Gary Myers reported in today’s New York Daily News that the Jets were “actively” shopping CB Darrelle Revis at the combine.

“Jets GM John Idzik may not have found time to meet with Darrelle Revis’ agents at the NFL Combine last week, but a source said he did manage to squeeze in Revis trade talk with multiple teams in Indianapolis,” Myers wrote.”Despite the damage control talk from Idzik and Rex Ryan in Indy about how much they value Revis, the source told the Daily News on Tuesday that Idzik was ‘actively’ shopping Revis at the combine, and interested teams are now doing their homework on what it would take to get Revis signed to a new contract if they can satisfy the Jets with compensation.

Idzik’s a good poker player, if you will. If he does intend to trade Revis, he will take his time, and let the process play out, and wait for the best blockbuster offer.

He’s not going to jump at some early low-ball offer. Idzik is known to be a very good negotiator.

Clearly, the Jets should be in no rush here. The draft is two months away, so if they are looking for a lot of draft picks in return for Revis, there is plenty of time to wait for the right offer.

You would have to think San Francisco is going to have some interest. They have 14 draft picks, and probably more on the way once they trade QB Alex Smith.
