The Jets did the right thing picking up the fifth-year option of guard Alijah Vera-Tucker.
Yes, he suffered two season-ending injuries the last two years, first a triceps injury two years ago, and then a torn Achilles last year.
So some might say it’s risky to pick up the option on a player coming off two serious injuries, but he suffered those injuries doing the team a favor, helping them out in a jam after tackle injuries.
Did playing tackle contribute to either of the injuries, hard to tell, but his best position is guard, and that is where he should play moving forward.
He’s a decent tackle but has the potential to become a perennial All-Pro guard.
Aside from taking one for the team by playing tackle, another reason picking up the option was the right thing is he’s the consummate team player, and everything you want in your locker room and culture. He is wired the right way.
Plus he’s only 24 and should be able to bounce back from the triceps and Achilles injuries.
