It’s still early in the process, and surely many more moves are to come, but so far, the Jets haven’t addressed perhaps their biggest need in free agency, a massive run-stopping nose tackle.
The old regime was big on undersized one-gappers who were too easily neutralized when blockers got their hands on them. The number of times the Jets were gashed up the middle against the run over the last couple of seasons – OMG.
The Jets need to add a couple of 320-pounders with thick trunks, brute strength, and solid anchor strength to hold the point of attack. They need guys who can clog the middle, control double teams, and consistently envelope ball carriers.
Their suspect run defense up the middle can’t continue.
If Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham is available when they pick at 7, they should race the card to the podium
But in the meantime, they need to add somebody in free agency
And surely they will.
But not yet.
Huge need – literally and figuratively.
