While the Jets did sign defensive lineman Howard Green on Wednesday, there is another player who will heavily factor into replacing Kris Jenkins . . .
Yes, Mike DeVito will place some at nose tackle. Howard Green as well.
But the man who will also jump into the fray is Matt “Don’t Be” Kroul.
I know he’s listed at 280, so you probably think that he’s not big enough to play nose tackle, but he’s actually over 300 pounds now. That weight needs to be updated on some roster. Â He added a lot of weight and strength last year on the Jets practice squad.
And while he still might not have ideal 3-4 nose tackle size, he makes up for it with his non-stop motor.
You saw that in the Jets preseason finale against Philadelphia, when he led the team in tackles (six) and sacks (two). The cat goes 200 miles per hour on every play. He’s a wild man out there.
He was fan favorite at Iowa because of his style of play.
He’ s also really, really smart, so he knows what he’s doing out there and won’t make many mental mistakes.
Also, his technique is outstanding.
It wasn’t just his training camp performance that landed him a roster spot. The coaches were in love with him before camp. They know they had something here.
So while the lost of Jenkins is huge, Kroul is going to really help the Jets’ depth at the position.
The guy can play.
I think we will all see that shortly.
