‘Way more beneficial than the Combine’

One Jets assistant, who has coached at the Senior Bowl before, feels it’s more valuable than the Combine.

Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. who was part of a San Francisco staff that coached in the game in 2019, thinks the Jets coaching the National Team this year, will benefit their scouting for the draft.

“You get an up-close view of these guys and how they digest information,” LaFleur said in an exclusive interview with the team’s website in Mobile. “Not only digesting it, but reciting it back to you.”

And then following practice, the test continues.

“After practice, you are coaching them up and you then ask them questions about what they would do better,” LaFleur said. “That is stuff at the Combine you don’t get. This is real football. The Senior Bowl, in my opinion, is way more beneficial than the Combine because you get the full interview, the practice and culminate it with the game.”

That extra benefit only goes to the two teams coaching the game, so this year the fortunate teams were the Jets and Detriot Lions, and those two organizations should be helped in the draft scouting process from their experiences last week in Mobile.
