What made Breece Hall’s 178-yard performance even more impressive was who it was against. The Patriots had a bad season, but had one of the NFL’s best run defense. It’s been very hard to run on New England this year, but not today.
And his best play, aside from the 50-yard TD run, was in the fourth quarter, was when Trevor Siemian threw him a pass on the right side off play-action, that was way behind him, but he made a spectacular one–handed catch, and gained 11 yards.
“The kid is a really good player,” said Pats radio analyst Scott Zolak . . .
In the third quarter, Garrett Wilson took a hit to the head from New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers, and was evaluated for a concussion.
He passed the concussion protocol, but he did not return to the game.
But I think the Jets need to tweak how they use him a little.
There are perhaps dialing up too many big receiver plays for him.
He weighs 180 pounds, and they dial up a ton of jump ball, 50-50 type plays, leading to a lot of contract.
To me, he’s more of a player you want to use in space, so he can use his great wheels and change of direction ability.
I wouldn’t be calling so many Mike Evans kind of plays.
Let’s be honest, he took a terrible beating this year, including an elbow injury he played with late in the season that will further evaluated after the season.
Heck of a talent, but I would handle him more like a 180-pound speedster and open-field gazelle as opposed to throwing him so many 50-50 balls like he’s Brandon Marshall . . .
Joe Tippmann had a walking boot on his left foot after the game after suffering an ankle injury in the second half.
Tippmann is a really good player, but one concern might be how tall he is for a center, which makes it harder to protect his legs in the middle of those scrums at 6-6, very tall for a center.
He had a few lower leg injuries in the summer and during the season.
But with all that being said, he’s a hell of a prospect . . .
When Aaron Rodgers met with the beat writers in early December, he didn’t make a lot of news, but one thing he said that kind of flew under the radar, but was somewhat newsworthy. He said the Jets need to play better “situational football.”
And a perfect example of that was on display late in the game.
With three minutes left, safety Ashtyn Davis picked off QB Bailey Zappe, and instead of going down, he tried to run with it and fumbled. He should have just gone down. He ended up fumbling and it was recovered by Pats offensive tackle Vederian Lowe.
“That shows a poorly coached player,” Zolak said after the fumble. “You’ve got the game. Take a knee. He was looking to lateral to Suace Gardner in the snow. Just dumb.”
This is an example of how the situation football needs to improve . . .
