East Rutherford -Here are some notes from the Jets-Jacksonville game. The Jets made one of the worst team in the league look like a playoff contender in the first half . . .
So much talk about Greg McElroy’s ankle. I’m noticing a left knee issue . . .
David Harris wasn’t very good in coverage tonight. And honestly, I didn’t think he had a very good camp in coverage.
While DeMario Davis did have a nice PD in the end zone, he was late coming over on Jacksonville’s first touchdown, a pass to TE Alan Reisner.
All summer Danny Lansanah was the best coverage linebacker on the field. He had 10 interceptions at UConn, and has very good coverage instincts.
His second half pick showed those instincts. That was a heck of a play.
Lansanah should not only make the team, but get some playing time . . .
Sheldon Richardson was very impressive in his MetLife Stadium debut.
He was second on the team with six tackles.
He had two run stops on the line, and sometimes looked like a linebacker there with his movement skills . . .
Just because he’s 250 pounds, doesn’t mean he’s a good blocker. Tommy Bohanon did some nice things as a runner and receiver, but he needs a lot of work on his blocking. He needs to finish blocks better. The Jets fourth possession ended with DE Jerome Mincey sacking Sanchez, and Bohanon did a poor job blocking him . . .
I think Willie Colon could turn out to be a major steal in free agency. He had a heck of game tonight. On the Jets’ second drive, Bilal Powell had a 37-yard run to the right side. The key block on this play was Colon pancaking DT Sen’Derrick Marks . . .
Mark Sanchez did throw a touchdown pass on the first series, but it was on a blown coverage.
Sanchez did some nice things in the second half, but a lot of the players he was competing against won’t be on the Jaguars.
They are rebuilding, and are going to put in a lot of waiver claims on the last two cut-downs.
Sanchez should have had more success against the Jaguars first-team defense.
I was shocked to see Alan Ball starting at cornerback. He’s a journeyman corner who is on his third team, who doesn’t run well, and has been moved to safety at times.
The other starting corner is a second round rookie.
This is not a good defense. The Dolphins lit them up in the first week of preseason.
Sanchez made them look better than they are . . .
It seems like the Jets want to give Geno Smith a chance to compete for the starting job in the Giants’ game.
I understand that seems like the fair things to do, but how is one half of football going to help you make the QB decision?
This quarterback situation is a mess.
If Sanchez didn’t throw that terrible pick in the end zone to CB Marcus Trufant, this decision might have been made already . . .
Sanchez does his best work with Braylon Edwards, so why is he buried on the depth chart?
Very strange.
I don’t buy this “he needs to get into better condition” angle. He played almost the entire second half. What is the difference between playing the entire first half, or the entire second half?
Start the guy. He’s the best receiver on the team . . .
Kahlil Bell is such an underrated running back.
He’s a big back (219 pounds) who is very quick and runs with a lot of passion.
He was always good in Chicago when he got a chance . . .
Don’t blame Dee Milliner for his inconsistent play. Blame whoever decided to start him before he was ready. Darrin Walls should be starting . . .
