A sourced Sports Illustrated article made it seem like the Jets weren’t “leaning into winning right now,” and that is why Aaron Rodgers wasn’t a good fit.
“For Rodgers, conversely, it means being with a team that will lean into winning right now . . . but after the last two years, the Jets weren’t going to be that team again,” wrote SI’s Albert Breer.
But the team’s new head coach and GM made it clear at the combine that they are leaning into winning right now.
“Every decision that me and Moug make is to win, and to win now,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said.
“Every decision AG and I make since we’ve got here and moving forward is what the
goal of winning now and from now on,” Jets GM Darren Mougey said.
And that is the way it should be.
The NFL is not a developmental league – the tickets are too expensive. It’s unfair to season-ticket holders to write off seasons in a rebuild mode, especially with a team that has missed the playoffs 14 seasons in a row.
It’s okay to have a “reboot’ with a new regime, but you still should try to reach the Super Bowl at the same time, like the Washington Commanders almost did last year.
It’s the right thing for Glenn and Mougey is to push back on the narrative that they are not “leaning into winning right now.”
So nobody should grade them on a curve this year.
Just win baby.
