My thoughts on Bart Scott

Bart Scott is a very good football player.

He’s not great, but very good, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Scott is a great, great leader, and really important to the Jets locker room.

He’s also tremendously tough and durable.

And I’m well aware that while his stats aren’t gaudy, he does a lot of the dirty work, allowing other players to make plays.

However, he’s also known for his coverage skills, and he was inconsistent in that area last year.

He probably should take a paycut, perhaps go from $6.5 to 4.5 million.

The Jets have so many players to deal with in free agency (once that starts) and his contract will likely hurt their ability to bring back a player or two.

He’s a terrific player, but his contract is a little out of whack with his skillset.

I would say Mike DeVito’s contributions to the defense are tantamount to Bart, and he will make about a $1.5 million this year. Scott is slated to make $6.5 million.

Look-it, I’m not looking to be a hater, I’m just keeping it real.

And not everyone in the media keeps it real with this guy.
