Todd Haley might not be Jets bound. Haley reportedly thinks Chiefs might have bugged his phone. We heard this before from the Bill tree. Let’s talk Haley . . .
Haley, a former Jets assistant, was rumored to candidate to handle the Jets passing offense, to work with his old friend Tony Sparano. They worked together with the Dallas Cowboys.
Now it looks like a long-shot. Haley would like to be an offensive coordinator. The Jets job wasn’t that.
But quite honestly, Haley and the Jets might be a bad match anyway.
Can you imagine Haley and Santonio Holmes working together? It probably would have been an unmitaged disaster.
Haley is a very bright coach, but he’s got a hot temper. Remember when he got into that sideline fight with Anquan Boldin in Arizona, when both were with the Cardinals?
Do you think yelling at Holmes is a good way to get through to him?
Haley-Holmes would have been a toxic mix . . .
There was a Kansas City Star report that Haley felt that GM Scott Pioli was bugging his phones.
I have a pretty good feel of what was going on here?
Pioli is a Parcells-Belichick disciple, and the coaching tree hates leaks to the media or anybody else.
I don’t think they bug phones, but they like to check outgoing phone records, to see if anybody in the building is leaking info to the Adam Schefter’s of the world.
When Bill Parcells was with the Jets, he felt an employee, who he inherited from the Rich Kotite-regime, was leaking info to a beat writer.
So Parcells had his phone records checked, and his fears were confirmed.
Parcells actually put out a phony transaction out in the Jets complex – the signing of CB Scooter McGruder, and he wanted to see if the guy leaked it.
He did.
Parcells couldn’t fire the person because Steve Gutman gave him a lucrative long-term deal, but he proceeded to make his life miserable, giving him demeaning assignments, until he quit.
Can you imagine the reaction of the Parcells, Belichick and Pioli’s of the world to the Daily News Story, with unnamed Jets players (and other workers), ripping Mark Sanchez.
They would have gone through the roof.
So while we aren’t going to sit here and say it’s okay to trace phone records, unnamed employees ripping the team’s quarterback isn’t much better.
Guys from the Parcells tree would make sure heads rolled over this kind of behavior.
It’s important to remember, the Daily News article wasn’t just quoting players.
Rex Ryan and Mike Tannenbaum have a problem beyond the locker room.
We sense there was an assistant coach involved in the unnamed Sanchez bashing.
You can call Pioli a tyrant, but look at the Jets mess right now.
Pioli doesn’t want this nonsense happening in Kansas City . . .
I like Todd personally, but he’s not a great fit for the Jets right now.
He wants to be a coordinator, and the Jets have one.
Plus the Jets have hired Sanjay Lal as the wide receiver’s coach, and if Haley had some on board as the passing game coordinator, part of his job would have coaching the receivers.
