To say Darrelle Revis was brilliant against the Football Giants would be an understatement. He finished with five PD’s and Eli Manning was 9-29 on the day.
On the first play of the Giants’ third possession, Revis had a PD on a short out to WR Hakeem Nicks on the left side. Late in the first half, on the first play of a drive, Eli Manning attempted a pass on the short left side to Ramses Barden, and Revis broke it up.
Late in the third quarter, Eli Manning rolled to his right, and attempted to hit rookie WR Jernel Jernigan on the crossing route, and Revis broke it up. Eli, you are terrific quarterback, but come back to us – throwing at Revis to Barden and Jernigan, what are you thinking? LOL.
On the first play of the second quarter, alert the media, Revis was actually beat on a play. Nicks beat him for a gain of 20 down the left sideline. But Revis had a key play at the end of this possession, knocking away a pass to Hick, over the middle in the end zone, forcing the Giants to kick a field goal.
His fifth PD was on a deep pass to Victor Cruz down the deep right side in the middle of the third quarter. This was a diving breakup.
If only his teammates had covered Cruz that well.
Late in the second quarter, on a third-and-10 from the Giants one-yard line, Eli Manning hit Cruz for a 99-yard TD. It was a short route on the left side, in-between Kyle Wilson and Cro, but they both missed him, and almost collided into each other, and Victor was off to the races. Anybody who blames Eric Smith on this play is wrong. He was covering Barden inside, and tried to tackle Cruz, but was playing catchup, and unsuccessfully dove at his legs.
Wilson didn’t have a good game, and I have to say, still has a lot of prove as a player.
Early in the second quarter, Manning hit Cruz for a gain of 29 over the short middle. Wilson was covering Cruz, but then left him to help double another player underneath, and Cruz was wide open. This play gained 29, and it’s hard to fathom why Wilson left Cruz.
Late in the third quarter, Cruz beat Wilson for a gain of 36 down the deep right side. After the play, Wilson and secondary coach Dennis Thurman had a shouting match on the sideline.
Wilson’s best play of the game was a PD on a crossing route to Cruz in the middle of the second quarter.
On the Giants third possession of the game, Cro was beat on a crossing route by Barden, who had a nice cut from the hash to the middle to get away from him, and he caught the ball, but Brodney Pool hit him in the back after the reception to cause an incompletion. Not only was Cro beat, he could have been called for interference, because he grabbed Barden’s jersey as he ran away from him.
Cro had a nice PD on Barden, down the left sideline, early second.
Pool did some effective blitzing. He had two blitzes where Manning had to throw the ball away as Cro converged on him.
We will have some notes from today’s Jets camp by 10 pm this evening.
