Florham Park – Mike Goodson is back with the Jets, and will take the next four weeks to get in shape and learn the offense better during his suspension.
Q)How does it feel to be back?
Goodson: It feels great. It feels great.
Q)Where have you been the last four weeks?
Goodson: (I) just had to handle some personal stuff, some stuff that was going on with me. The team’s been real supportive and I appreciate their support.
Q)What were you able to do at practice today?
Goodson: I was able to get out and run around a little bit, get a workout in, get back into it.
Q)When did you find out you were going to be suspended for the first four games of the season?
Goodson: Last night. I understand the suspension and I understand what I can do and what I can’t do. I’m trying to workout and go to meetings and do as much as I can to get ready for the fifth game.
Q)Did you appeal the suspension?
Goodson: No.
Q)Why didn’t you appeal the suspension?
Goodson: (It was) just something that I didn’t want to do.
Q)Is the suspension fair?
Goodson: I’m not really going to get into that.
Q)How much do you think you can contribute this season?
Goodson: I have time to work out for four weeks. I think guys will get tired going through a season. Your body’s going to get weary and I’ll be coming back fresh so I think I’ll be able to contribute a lot when I get back.
Q)Were you in treatment for substance abuse?
Goodson: It was personal things (with) me and my family. I don’t really want to get into those things here.
Q)How disappointed are you about how you started your Jets career?
Goodson: I’m pretty disappointed in myself. I had some things that I had to do. I’m back now and I was able to address those things and I’m a lot better.
Q)What can you tell us about the night of your arrest in May?
Goodson: As far as the legal issues, I really can’t talk about those types of things. I’ve got to refer that to my attorney.
Q)Was the arrest embarrassing?
Goodson: Yeah, it was kind of embarrassing.
Q)Did you think the Jets would release you?
Goodson: They’ve been really supportive.
Q)Were you able to do any football stuff the last four weeks?
Goodson: A little bit. Not anything like I would be doing while I was here, though.
Q)How excited are you to be back with your teammates?
Goodson: Really excited. Just got to work real hard and earn the trust of my teammates. Not talk a lot or do a lot of talking. I think the proof is in your actions and if I do things I need to do I think I’ll earn the trust of my teammates back.
Q)How are you doing learning the playbook?
Goodson: I was at minicamp and I ran this offense and this style of offense in Oakland last year so I kind of know the scheme, so it won’t be that hard for me to pick it up.
Q)What can you provide to this offense?
Goodson: Spark. I think I’m really explosive. Given four weeks to prepare for something, I think I’ll be pretty explosive and ready to play.
Q)Have you changed as a person while you were away?
Goodson: I was able to get my life in order and able to look at some things that I wasn’t happy with with myself.
