It’s was a terrific showing by the Jets Front Seven in the team’s win over Kansas City, with strong performances by Marcus Dixon, Sione Pouha and Calvin PaceĀ . . .
On the first play of the Kansas City Chiefs second drive, Dixon had an awfully impressive play. On a Thomas Jones run attempt to the left side, and Dixon game from the right side, and dove at the runners legs, to stop him for no gain.
On the first play of the Chiefs third possession, RB Jackie Battle ran for 11 yards off left tackle. On this play, DE Ropati Pitiotua was pushed too far inside, and David Harris was blocked effectively, and this opened up a big hole on the left side that Battle ran through. Pitiotua redeemed himself on the next play, stopping Battle on the line, on another run off left tackle.
On the first play of the second quarter, Dixon shot into the backfield and blew up a Battle run, and Calvin Pace cleaned it up, making the tackle, and the play lost one yard.
Late in the first half, Dixon did a nice job of slipping between RT Barry Richardson and RG Jon Asamoah to sack Tyler Palko. On the stat sheet, Dixon split the sack with Pace, who jumped on the QB after he was in the grasp of Dixon, but this sack was all about Marcus.
Dixon had another big play, on the Chiefs last possession of the first half, stopping Battle for a loss of two.
Then Sione Pouha ended with first half with a sack.
Late in the third quarter, DE Mo Wilkerson beat C Casey Weigmann, and got in Palkoās face, causing an incompletion.
After a terrific fourth quarter punt by T.J. Conley, on the next play, Pouha beat Weigmann, and sacked Palko in the end zone, for a safety.
Donāt be surprised if the 38-year-old Weigmann, a former Jet, retires after this season. He was thinking about it last year.
Turning to the linebackers, Pace got the defense off on the right foot, tipping Palkoās first pass, intended for WR Dwayne Bowe, in the left flat. On the Chiefs third possession, on the first play of the second quarter, Pace came off the edge to stop Battle for a loss of one.
In the middle of the second quarter, Bart Scott blitzed up the middle, shed a block by RG Ryan Lilja, and sacked Palko for a loss of seven. Scott also had two run stops, in the second quarter, where the runner only gained two yards.
Jamaal Westerman beat Richardson, forced Palko out of the pocket, and then the QB was forced to throw the ball away, with Westerman in hot pursuit.
David Harris led the Jets with six tackles.
Chiefs LT Brandon Albert did a nice job on Aaron Maybin
Nick Bellore was called for holding on a first quarter kick return by Matthew Mulligan. Bellore makes a lot of tackles, but he needs to cut down on penalties.
The next premium article will be a look at the secondary, and it will appear by 11:30 am on Wednesday.
