Time for a helping of Wednesday Website Whispers. The content on this website is different than our monthly magazine. Check it out.
Small world. Did you know the Giants used to hold training camp directly across the street from the Jets current training complex, in Florham Park, at Farleigh Dickinson University? Two NFL teams with ties to this tiny Northern Jersey town . . .
After almost two years of playing in the new stadium, it’s pretty clear – even though it’s right across the parking lot from the old stadium, the wind situation is better than the former venue.
“This stadium is more kicker friendly (than the old one),” Mike Westhoff said . . .
Some around the Jets feel that Wayne Hunter got a raw deal on his first false start in Philadelphia.
It’s illegal for defenders to attempt to get offensive players to jump off-sides. Eagles DE Trent Cole was jumping around, up-and-down the line, and might have even touched Nick Mangold, and he got Hunter to jump. Some people feel Cole should have been penalized . . .
Caleb Schlauderaff hurt his knee in practice on Tuesday, but was full-go Wednesday, and says the injury is no big deal, and will be able to play on Sunday . . .
Marquice Cole (knee) isn’t sure he will be able to play on Saturday.
A decision will be made on Friday.
Cole isn’t sure what they will decide.
“I don’t know, I just work here,” Cole said smiling . . .
Marcus Dixon was the victim of a bad call last week, when he was called for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Mike Vick.
Vick dipped his head into Dixon.
But clearly the league didn’t think Dixon was guilty. He was not fined by the league (at least not as of today) . . .
Bart Scott had no interest in dealing in trash talk with the Giants.
“I’m not getting involved in verbal sparring bleep,” Scott said.
What about what Rex said about the Jets being the better team?
“Let him deal with that, not me,” Scott said . . .
The Jets defense probably isn’t elite, but it’s pretty good, and like I said the other day, LeSean McCoy and Mike Vick, are a terrible matchup for the Jets Front Seven (and many others as well). Those two guys have “sick” skills as they say.
“That’s why their record is so puzzling,” Mike Pettine said about the Eagles. “Those two guys, and add a couple more from that offense, those are explosive athletes. There were some things that happened in that game where we had a guy wide open in the hole to make a tackle, we missed it. But you tip your hat to them because that’s how explosive they are. And again, you scratch your head that their win total is what it is, because they certainly showed they’re a much better team than their record on Sunday.”
The Jets match-up much better against the Giants. The G-Men have a quarterback who likes to stay in the pocket, runners that aren’t like McCoy – they come more right at you (especially with Bradshaw playing on a bad wheel), which is better for the Jets Front Seven.
And that Jets Front Seven is going to playing “with their hair on fire” as Rex likes to say, after being embarrassed last week, especially Sione Pouha, who had zero tackles in Philly.
