Question Session – David Nelson

Q)Why didn’t you make a big deal about playing a team that cut you (Cleveland)?

Nelson: Because the last time I did we didn’t play very well (laughter). We played Buffalo about five weeks ago and I made a big deal about it. I played a little outside of myself. I tried to play too hard and tried to make too many things happen. I feel like I didn’t play very well and our team didn’t play very well and so this week I tried to play it off like it was nothing.

Q)What can you tell us about your two touchdown catches?

Nelson: It’s crazy because we’ve been practicing those two plays the past six weeks. What you saw today was the product of six weeks of work. I came in midseason so we had to continue to work on it.

Those are timing routes. He’s got to trust that I’m going to be in the right place at the right time. I think you saw that he put it right on the money, right where it needed to be, and I was in the right spot at the right time.

We just haven’t been able to put it in the game plan yet. Coach felt comfortable with it this week and it just happened to pay off.

Q)Did you familiarity with the Browns cornerbacks help you today?

Nelson: A little bit. I’ve been playing against Joe (Haden) since 2006. I went to college with him, played with him for three years, and I played against him one year when I was in Buffalo and then I practiced against him in training camp. I was very familiar with him.

I really believe it helps you get the edge. You try to watch film on guys and try to get a little bit of an edge on these guys by film study, but I actually have the mental reps and the physical reps. I know their defensive style so I think that definitely gave me a little bit of an advantage.
