It’s a smart marketing approach right now . . .
The Jets posted on social media on Tuesday: “It’s Joe’s time to work.”
They were talking about Joe Douglas and there was a picture of the Jets GM above the sentence.
You are seeing a lot of social media posts about Douglas by the Jets.
Good idea.
If you are going to attempt to market this team now, on social media, it’s probably best to make Douglas the focal point.
He seems to be popular with most of the fans. He’s got a great reputation in NFL circles as a talent evaluator, and he’s about to embark on his first full off-season as Jets GM – his first full free agent period and first draft.
And he has total control of player personnel – final say on the roster, and Jets fans have high hopes for what he should be able to do with his stellar reputation.
So it’s really smart to promote the heck out of Douglas right now
Not just because he’s considered a terrific personnel guy, but also because it’s hard for them to promote the coach a great deal right now.
For some reason, he seems very unpopular with Jets fans right now. Perhaps he has never recovered from his opening press conference when he had the issue with his eyes bugging out. You see photos of memes of this all over the internet to this day. Right or wrong, that has hurt Gase.
Whatever the reason so many fans clearly don’t like the coach, it’s smart to take a low key approach with Gase right now when it comes to the team’s website and social media approach. Let things calm down a little. Perhaps a few months out of the spotlight will help Gase’s image a little bit. Perhaps not, not but it’s worth a try.
Right now, whenever something about Gase pops up on the internet, like on a newspaper website, you will see myriad negative comments under the story, or under a link to the story on Twitter. Some people are like parakeets – constantly posting the same message – “Fire Gase.”
It’s ugly out there right now in social media-sphere related to Coach Gase.
This has to be pretty tough on his family, especially his kids. Sometimes we forget how hard attacks on a public figure are on their families.
Nonetheless, making Douglas the focal point of the Jets’ social media and website posts is a smart approach right now.
How those in the organization can help improve Gase’s image with many Jets fans, that remains to be seen. They need a really smart PR strategy, campaign, to improve Adam’s image. How they do this is above my paygrade, but we all know there are PR savants out there who come up with plans to deal with these kind of issues. They better come up with something, because while having him lay low for a while could help a little bit, it’s not going to totally fix the problem.
But making Douglas the centerpiece right now is a good idea.
