The craziness continues in Florham Park. Satellite trucks, tons of reporters, the Governor chiming in, Hee-Haw at the podium and the Jets keeping this bizarre QB competition going . . .
In practice, Matt Simms was ahead of Greg McElroy.
It looks like the Jets brass is overrating what Simms did against Giants’ second and third-stringers in the fourth quarter and overtime.
I think McElroy gives the Jets the best chance to win right now, but he’s fourth-string because Rex is holding a grudge against him.
It’s probably time for the Jets to trade or cut McElroy.
The coach has a major vendetta against him, so he’s never going to give him a fair chance.
It’s probably time for a change of scenery for Greg.
Or maybe for Rex Ryan.
I can’t believe the insanity I’m observing.
After watching Geno Smith throw three picks and a safety against the Giants, he still in the conversation for the starting job?
You have to be a fool to think this guy should start the opener.
I can’t believe they keep pushing this bull-crap.
He holds the ball too damn long and doesn’t have good pocket presence.
I’m sorry to use such strong language, but this is maddening.
And on the same day Rex is still pushing this QB competition crap, he demotes McElroy to fourth string in practice, the player who might give them the best chance to win. This is Rex putting his ego over pragmatic thinking.
But putting McElroy on the side, watching Geno Smith practice and play, to me, it puts Mark Sanchez in a much better light.
Since Rex hates McElroy, Jets fans better wish Sanchez’s shoulder heals sufficiently enough to start the opener.
If John Idzik and Rex Ryan start Geno Smith in the opener, it’s a black mark on both of them. It’s dereliction of duty. I’m serious.
It would be a slap in the face to the fans who pay top dollar for tickets to go to the stadium to watch a guy who doesn’t know what he’s doing yet.
Smith needs to be red-shirted this year. He’s a major project with outstanding potential, but he’s a ball of clay that needs to be molded over the next year.
I’m sitting in the Jets press room today, hearing the banter about the quarterback situation, and thinking to myself, “How the bleep is Geno Smith even a consideration for the job after what we saw against a Giants defense that is lousy at linebacker, and that lost two important defensive backs early in the game?”
I can’t believe what is going on here.
And Rex keeps making it worse with his horrendous media skills.
I’ve written this over and over again – he needs media training. His Hee-Haw approach to press conferences is embarrassing. Why don’t they help them man out, and have him sit down with a media coach, maybe a former presidential press secretary.
And the Jets brass needs to get on the same page. Somebody told Sanchez he wasn’t going to play against the Giants, but didn’t tell the head coach? And then he’s sent into the game willy-nilly, and gets hurt.
Jets get your act together.
John Idzik, start leading.
