Right after the Super Bowl ended on Sunday, the Jets tweeted out their new uniforms.
WFAN host Evan Roberts went ballistic on Monday.
“Do you really want to know how pathetic the New York Jets are?” Roberts said. “The New York Jets tweet out a hype video about how they’re gonna have new uniforms in 2024, you clueless, pathetic bastards. The Super Bowl is occurring! A guy you got rid of scored the game-winning touchdown, and you can’t wait to go on social media and say ‘Hey, we got new unis coming in 2024!’
“You talk about clueless, you talk about tone deaf. I hate/love my team. I love them because I will always root for them, and I hate them because they’re idiots.”
“Woody Johnson is obsessed with uniforms, colors, logos. He thinks that’s gonna make us feel better…he is clueless. This franchise is clueless.”
After missing the playoffs for 13 years in a row, the current longest streak in all of professional sports, why do this now?
The culture needs to be tweaked.
Aaron Rodgers has hinted at this on a couple of different occasions.
After the season, Rodgers said, “Anything in this building that we’re doing that has nothing to do with winning needs to be assessed. Everything that we do has to have a purpose … the bullshit that has nothing to do with winning has to get out of the building.”
What do uniforms have to do with winning?
And if you are going to announce new ones, why do it after the Super Bowl, a game you weren’t in, and have not been in since January 12, 1969?
I personally don’t care about uniforms, but teams do change designs sometimes, but why not announce that a little down the road, a few months from now, after the wounds have healed from a team’s 13 straight seasons out of the playoffs?
Who is driving this stuff which Roberts called “tone-deaf,” a comment you sometimes read under tweets from the owner from fans?
Are people around Woody Johnson aware of the fan comments under his tweets?
You gotta read the room better.
And by the way that is another comment you often read under Johnson’s tweets – “Read the room.”
Who is working with him on his Twitter account? That is a question I get all the time, I can’t answer that right now.
There are only three people who can help fix this – Ira Axselrad, Christopher Johnson and Aaron Rodgers.
Nobody else in the building is going to say anything. They don’t want to risk their jobs. Who critiques their boss?
But Axselrad doesn’t work for the Jets. He runs the Johnson Company which manages Woody’s money.
He can be blunt with Woody and not worry about his job security. He’s like Woody’s consigliere. So Ira can help fix this.
Christopher is obviously his brother, so he can talk honestly with him.
And Rodgers has proven that he’s willing to say anything to anybody, and he said the “Culture needs to be fine-tuned.”
Things have to change, and they need to change now.
