It is possible that the Jets could run it back with last year’s interior trio of center Joe Tippmann with guards Alijah Vera-Tucker and John Simpson.
They bought themselves a solid insurance policy at all three interior positions, landing former Green Bay center Josh Myers on a one-year deal for $2 million, which seems like a bargain, especially after what Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said about the Ohio State product’s play last year.
“Josh, I thought he had his best year,” Gutekunst said in January.
The Jets have three other interior players under contract in Kohl Levao, Xavier Newman and Zach Bailey.
The sleeper is Levao, a native of American Somoa, who is a road-grading run blocker with his massive frame and thick trunk. He gets a lot of push in the run game.
Newman can play all three interior positions, and Bailey can play both guard and tackle.
The Jets certainly could add a guard or center in the draft, but perhaps it’s not an urgent need with who they currently have in the room.
