Joe Douglas needs to step in here . . .
As the man who runs the Jets football operation, and as the man who drafted the player, he needs to talk to Zach Wilson.
This Zach Wilson soap opera is getting out of control.
For the player’s dating saga, I will point you to Harvey Levin’s TMZ or Page Six, but now Wilson’s mother, Lisa, is battling fans on social media.
Lisa Wilson posted this on social media: “I had reached a point in my life that I thought I had mastered parenting. I thought I had done all the things to teach her to recognize danger. I thought I had blocked her from outside influences and I mean she was my kid, so even if someone got in, she knew what to do. I was wrong. I completely underestimated the degree of evil that was possible, in a little electronic device, I personally placed in my baby girls hand.”
Not sure what exactly this means, and how it relates to Zach, but a fan confronted her on it via social media.
“Who are you giving parenting advice to? asked a fan. “You know you can just parent your kids without telling the world about it. Look at your [expletive deleted] up family.”
Lisa Wilson responded: “OK sometimes we need a sacrificial lamb. Don’t be a d–k. I’m not in the mood. Yes I often post d–k comments. I don’t believe in cyberbullying.”
Lisa Wilson also had another post where he stated – “So this isn’t like a threat or anything, it’s just kind of a warning, See, I just believe if you’re willing to type something out and send it out into the universe, that there are sometimes repercussions.”
She wrapped up her video by stating; “Maybe think before you type. Think before you send something out. You never know who may be reading it.”
Look I’m not judging Lisa Wilson at all. She is trying to defend her family.
But this soap opera involving the Jets’ unproven QB has turned into a mess and perhaps a distraction for the Jets.
I put in there “unproven” because he has so much to prove on the field, the last thing he needs, is to be the center of a story that has nothing to do with football.
If you are a proven star QB like Aaron Rodgers, and you are reportedly dating a woman named “Blu of Earth,” it’s not going to distract the QB or the team.
Rodgers is going to do his thing no matter what TMZ or Page Six write about his relationship with “Blu of Earth.”
But when you are a young QB, who has so much to learn, you don’t need to add to the pressures you already have with a love life that has become a national story. That ups the already enormous pressure you are under trying to master an incredibly hard position, the toughest in all of sports.
All we need to know about how hard the position is to play NFL QB, is to look at the fact that Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are now both on the Carolina Panthers battling for a job, after being picked first and third respectfully by other teams in the 2018 draft.
Douglas needs to roll up his sleeves and deal with this mess.
Maybe he already is.
But this isn’t something that can be laughed off.
It’s becoming a major distraction, and the last thing NFL teams need are distractions.
It’s hard enough to win in the NFL without distractions.
