Najee Harris is wrong.
“I’ve been here three years, obviously. I have my opinions on things, but I’m just a player. But if you want to elevate and get to where we’re at, there’s got to be some in-house things that need to change,” Harris said. “Coach [Mike Tomlin] always tells me just play running back. That’s a little inside thing that we have, too. But if you want to elevate where we are and achieve those goals that we want, we have to change some in-house stuff. Like I said, that’s not my place, that’s not anything that I can control or do anything about that.”
“In-house rules. Not no changes or coaches or anything like that. Just the rules that are in the building. We’ve got to be more disciplined. We’ve got to be more committed. I’m not saying that we’re not, but coming from a place that has structure and coming and just seeing, we could probably get help in these areas; make a change. I think that’s something that could help. I’m not saying anything about coaches or anything like that; I’m saying in-house rules.”
The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have discipline problems.
Mike Tomlin’s teams don’t have discipline problems.
They don’t have a quarterback.
It almost always comes back to that.
There is nothing a franchise QB wouldn’t solve.
You can be the greatest coach around, but you don’t have an answer at QB, there is only so much you can do as a coach.
The Steelers have been swimming since Ben Roethlisberger retired, and even late in his great career when he lost a little bit as a player.
Whatever you think of Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh, and there are things both can do better, but if they get Aaron Rodgers back, and he’s the Rodgers of old, everyone is going to be better at their jobs.
That is how the NFL works. You have a QB, everyone’s IQ goes up.
Tom Brady made Robert Kraft gain the reputation as one of the NFL’s best owners when New England won six Super Bowl Championships.
The Glazers were better owners in Tampa Bay during Brady’s time there.
So when I heard Harris going off on things in Pittsburgh after their playoff loss to Buffalo, it hit me what B.S. that is.
And by the way, the owner of Buffalo became even smarter and got a stadium approved thanks in part to the Bills finding a franchise QB – Josh Allen.
This league is all about the quarterback, and if Rodgers comes back, and plays the next two years, and stays healthy, and hasn’t lost much, the Jets should be right in the mix for those two seasons.
Tomlin would probably love to have the option of having a QB like Rodgers.
Because there is nothing wrong with Tomlin. He hasn’t forgotten how to coach.
He just doesn’t have an answer at QB.
And that will bring down the best of them.
Look what just happened in Foxboro.
