Maybe Rex needs to not only talk to Brian Jackson, but also Dennis Thurman.
According to ESPN New York, Jackson cursed at Thurman.
He wasn’t comfortable with how the secondary coach was using him.
So what follows? He gets tied to the goalpost, and named “King Ugly” even though he’s a good looking guy.
I’m not into judging guys looks, but look him up on the internet. “King Ugly?” That is ridiculous.
What are the going to do him next tar and feather him?
Am I condoning a rookie cursing at a coach? No. But I also don’t know the context of the conversation.
I do know Thurman’s track record so far with the Jets.
The affable Kerry Rhodes hates his guts.
Thurman clearly couldn’t get through to either Rhodes or Lito Sheppard last season.
He also clearly has ignored Dwight Lowery’s request to move to safety. Lowery isn’t a man-to-man corner, expecially when he’s on an island by himself – he doesn’t have the speed and quickness.
The secondary didn’t play well against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game.
The Jets backup secondary didn’t play well against the New York Giants on preseason Monday Night Football this week.
While you can blame the players to a certain degree for these aforementioned scenariors, you also need to look at the coach.
Rex Ryan continually says Thurman is the “best secondary coach in the business.”
But when one player after another has a problem with their position coach, you can’t just keep blaming the players.
Jackson was pretty highly rated coming out of Oklahoma.
It was surprising he wasn’t drafted.
Maybe he should bet on himself and get out of here.
Because as Rhodes found out, once you have a bad relationship with Thurman, it might never improve.
Thurman clearly is a very smart secondary mind, but many he needs to tweak his approach a little.
