Of course he does . . .
Le’Veon Bell is dealing with some kind of illness.
Adam Gase was asked today about the nature of the illness.
“I didn’t ask too many questions,” Gase said in response.
You don’t ask too many questions about the nature of the illness that your starting running back is dealing with?
Of course he asked and of course he knows. He’s just not going to talk about it in a press conference . . .
The Jets have 17 players listed on their injury report. The Miami Dolphins have seven players listed on their injury report.
Does this mean the Jets are the much more banged up team?
Not necessarily.
It could be they just list more people.
Every player in the NFL is dealing with something this time of year.
You only really need to list injuries that could keep guys out of practice and games.
The Dolphins clearly chose to list less players than the Jets, but there is no violation here.
But sometimes you wonder a little if some teams list more due to ulterior motives – like – “Look how beat-up we are.”
Before the Jets-Bengals game, Cincinnati had 10 players listed and Jets had 17.
Once again, every player this time of year has a least a little something wrong with them physically.
Not accusing anybody of breaking any rules.
Just talking about different approaches . . .
Something that wasn’t mentioned coming out of the Jets loss in Cincinnati.
On the team’s first pass of the game, the intended target perhaps had alligator arms on a Sam Darnold throw over the middle . . .
The Miami Dolphins waived rookie cornerback Xavier Crawford. He was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Texans out of Central Michigan, who the Dolphins claimed on waiver, October 28.
Considering the Jets issues at cornerback now, perhaps they should claim him, not just to help them at the position, but to pick his brain about the Dolphins . . .
What a challenge the Jets have over the next week. Obviously trying to win on Sunday, but then turning around on a short week and traveling to Baltimore and facing the Ravens. Imagine trying to come up with game plan to deal with all the wrinkles presented by Ravens offensive coordinator and quarterback Lamar Jackson on a short week . . .
The Jets have a big problem right now at nickel cornerback. The first-team player at that position is Brian Poole (pictured above) who is in the concussion protocol. The Jets backup slot cornerback is Arthur Maulet, who has a calf injury and didn’t practice Wednesday and Thursday. He suffered the calf injury at Cincinnati, and those usually aren’t one week injuries. They linger.
Last week when Poole had to leave the game due to a head injury, Maulet moved inside to the slot, and Daryl Roberts took over Maulet’s spot on the outside.
The Jets will likely need to get Nate Hairston back in the mix this week. He was put on ice after a rough game against the Football Giants.
It’s unclear who would go in the slot, but with Poole and Maulet possibly out, the Jets four corners will be Roberts, Bless Austin, Kyron Brown and Hairston.
