You have to give the kid credit.
Mekhi Becton hurt his knee against the Buffalo Bills, but never came out of the game.
And now, watching him on the practice field, he’s sucking it up, and fighting through it. He had a brace on his left knee today, and was practicing hard.
This is a good sign for the Jets, not just now, but moving forward.
A lot of young players have issue playing with injuries. They struggle with the difference between being hurt and injured.
The fact that Becton stayed in the game with the knee, and now is practicing with it with the intent on playing, shows you something about his toughness and willingness to play with injuries . . .
Was it a mistake for Christopher Johnson to speak to the media yesterday?
Probably.
Hat-tip to him for having the guts to do it, but the fans and media had a field day with his comments.
From his worldview, and the Jets’ front office worldview, he didn’t say anything wrong. He supported his head coach, but that view is unacceptable to many in the Jets’ Nation, so was it worth it to throw them raw meat? It isn’t written anywhere that the owner EVER has to speak.
Well first off all, I really don’t think Christopher Johnson is really fazed by the Twitter snipers and media critics. He’s pretty thick skinned about this stuff.
And it’s possible he did the interview to show the team that the coach has his full support, even with all the hate they see towards the coach on social media.
One of the big Gase bashers out there is ESPN’s Mike Greenberg. While his opinions of football should carry little water because he’s not a football expert – never played, coached or covered the sport, when he speaks about the Jets, to some it’s like the Pope speaking about Catholicism.
For some reason, every time he bashes Gase, it become a story on fan websites. I don’t consider it a story in the least.
However, I want to comment on something he said in one of his rants.
“The players hate him,” Greenberg said about Gase.
Totally false. That is not the case. I’m there every day.
I’m no special pleader for Gase. If the Jets have a bad season, he probably needs to go, but don’t lie about what’s going on over there.
Players hating him is not the problem.
But getting back to Johnson, the only advice I would give him is pull back on the superlatives a little. Don’t use a word like “genius” to describe the head coach’s offensive mind, don’t use “sterling” to describe Sam Darnold. I would tone down the superlatives. It’s his right to support his head coach and QB if he wants, but don’t give raw meat to reporters with over-the-top superlatives . . .
Frank Gore taking over for Le’Veon Bell will help the offense in a couple of ways. First off, he’s not a dancer like Bell, he sees a hole and hits it immediately, which will be good for the offensive line. Secondly, he’s a true alpha dog, so having him the huddle a lot more, in the starting role, will be good for the offensive unit as a whole, from a leadership standpoint. He’s good for the offensive karma. Players follow Gore.
